About
I've spent a lot of time (during my frustration with today's popular shooters) thinking about what PC game enthusiasts like myself want in a first-person shooter. For me at least, it's a balance of realism and playability. While games like ARMA and America's Army are strong in terms of realism, they lack the pick-up-and-play quality of games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. This demonstration (though very early in development) is an attempt at finding this balance. Features include: -Auto leaning -Variable stance -Smooth, realistic player and weapon movement -And much, much more to come! Why no bullets, or even enemies? Well, I just discovered 7DFPS two days ago, and I didn't have anything anywhere ready to show. So after some very rushed coding, I put together this little demo. If you like what I've got so far, stay tuned! You can follow the game's development here: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=591328&hl Created with GameMaker 8.1 beene.jeff@gmail.com www.jeff-beene.com

The demo is really neat, although the camera movements will definitely induce motion sickness for the people who are susceptible to it. Dynamically setting the stance with the mousewheel and autoleaning are great ideas! I would love to play a complete game and any other new ideas/implementations you have. If you do decide to make a more complete game, please let me know and I may be able to help you with some art assets. - red_rogue_xiii@hotmail.com

RedRogueXIII, thank you! I certainly do intend to make a complete game. You can follow its development here: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=591328&hl And I could definitely use a 3d artist, where can I see some of your work?

I was wondering if you could let me use your engine, for my game? I was thinking of using it for a parkour/bhop type of game.

Sure thing: http://redroguexiii.deviantart.com/gallery/ I would be willing to do some models similar to the Overkill 2 specs for ya. Doing the high end current gen kind of stuff would be awesome, but those take way too much time to do consistently as a hobby for a large scale art project. If you're interested in my offer just send me a list of art assets that you would need and I'll try and do a few in batches as you complete project milestones. If there are assets that are priority please be sure to mark them as such too, oh and let me know what file formats are good for you as well as I find .obj to be the most universal.

Really cool. I can't wait for the full game!!!
Smooth! I really enjoyed it; the movement felt really slick, and the arm movement while looking around was fantastic. I personally prefer manual leaning - though it could definitely be combined with automatic detection of how far to lean. I believe the original Thief games did this (i.e. you only leaned out just to where you could see around the corner), but I haven't noticed it done since, unfortunately.

Thank you all for your feedback! Lot's of great ideas here. Since I am using GameMaker and developing this small game on my own, it's rather slow going. But please stay tuned for more, more complete demos are on the way!
